The Windfreak SynthHD Mini is a software tunable Signal Generator that
operates from 10MHz to 15GHz with a 0.01Hz resolution. It delivers an output
power of up to 20dBm with a minimum resolution of 0.01dB and supports
FM, AM, Pulse, Sweep, and List modulations. It has a 32-bit ARM processor and
non-volatile on-board flash memory which can be used to program the generator for
standalone operation on any frequency, power, sweep or modulation setting and
combinations thereof, running without a PC connection for field work. This
is a highly mobile, low power and light weight solution for RF signal
generation needs.
The SynthHD Mini RF Signal Generator can be powered by a device running Windows, Linux or Android via its USB port. It requires a DC supply of 5 V, consumes 400 mA of current. This generator is housed in a compact module that measures 1.6 x 1.6 x 0.5 inches and is suitable for use in applications such as wireless communications systems, RF and Microwave radios, software defined radio (SDR), radar, automated test equipment (ATE), EMC - radiated immunity pre-compliance testing, electronic warfare (EW), law enforcement, quantum computing and device research, plasma physics and medical research and treatment.

Today the Saelig Company, Inc. has introduced new 750MHz and 1GHz models to the 4-channel PicoScope 6000E Series, which provide 8 to 12 bits of vertical resolution, and up to 5GSa/s sampling rate with 4GSa memory, allowing these scopes to display single-shot pulses with up to 200ps time resolution. The four new 4-channel models added to the existing 6000E series are the PicoScope 750MHz 6405E and the 1GHz 6406E with 8-bit A/D resolution and the PicoScope 750MHz 6425E and the 1GHz 6426E with 8, 10, or 12 bits ‘FlexRes’ resolution. The screen update rate is a remarkable 300,000 waveforms per second. An active probe interface on these scopes allows the use of optional matching 750MHz or 1.3GHz Active Probes.
Pico ‘FlexRes’ flexible-resolution oscilloscopes allows the scope hardware to be configured to optimize either the sampling rate or the resolution: a fast (5GSa/s) 8-bit oscilloscope for looking at digital signals, a 10-bit oscilloscope for general-purpose use, or a high-resolution 12-bit oscilloscope for audio work and other sensitive analog applications. All models can operate with an extra 4 bits of resolution with the enhanced vertical resolution software feature — a digital signal processing technique built into PicoScope 6, the complementary software. “Fake” chips present a huge issue for manufacturing companies trying to source ICs from non-traditional channels. With the current worldwide chip shortage, manufacturers are desperately scrambling to keep their production lines going for electronics goods and automobiles. One solution many companies are turning to is the so-called “gray market” – non-authorized suppliers of obsolete and excess component stocks. While this can be a quick fix, it presents a problem that is challenging to detect and eliminate – that of counterfeit ICs.
Choosing the best new digital oscilloscope for your needs can be challenging, especially now as there are so many more things you can now do with a scope. Where will it be used? On the bench, or does it need to be portable for traveling to a customer site? Do you need to project the image for lots of people to see or is it just for your use? How many electrical signals do you need to measure at once? Analog and digital signals? What is the highest frequency of signal you need to measure? What bandwidth do you need? Remember – when seeing a good representation of a 50MHz square-wave you'll need a scope bandwidth of at least 500MHz. Cost and bandwidth are related! What are the maximum and minimum amplitudes of signals that you need to measure? Are your signals repetitive or single shot? Do you need to view signals in the frequency domain (spectrum analysis) as well as the time domain? What's your budget?
