Review by Ken Wyatt: Siglent SSA3075X-R real-time spectrum analyzer

EMI guru Ken Wyatt borrowed Siglent’s new SSA3000X-R-series real-time spectrum analyzer recently and was able to compare it to their SSA3032X swept analyzer. It uses the same compact form factor as their swept model. The model reviewed was their SSA3075X-R that can tune from 9 kHz to 7.5 GHz; other real-time models include top frequencies of 3.2 and 5 GHz. All now offer free vector network analyzer (VNA) and distance to fault (DTF) measurements. A preamplifier and tracking generator are standard, and the EMI bandwidths and quasi-peak detector functions are optional ($400), but recommended.

SMART CHARGING/SYNCING SOLUTIONS FOR HEALTHCARE

Smart mobile phone charging helps your staff and patients!

Your mobile cell phone storage and charging problems end here! Cambrionix Smart Mobile Device Chargers from Saelig make charging, storing and securely managing hospital, BYOD, and patient-owned mobile devices easier.

72% of hospital workers cited improved quality of patient care with mobile technology

Mobile charging stations provide a needed solution.  Hospitals across one or multiple buildings have shared mobile devices for medical staff. Mobile devices need to be charged, synced and provisioned shift to shift so they’re ready for the next team member.

IT challenge: process each station’s mobile devices for daily syncing provisioning. A sync-and-provision system should run with minimal IT staff support. Focus on patient care instead of technology.

Cambrionix from Saelig offers fast, simple charging and syncing. Charge and transfer data at the same time with managed USB hubs that deliver up to 2.4A (12W) to every connected mobile device. Faster than other solutions: a Thunderbolt™ 3 can transfer data 16 times faster than a USB 2 or USB 3.2 hub.

Future proof: our intelligent charging algorithm can be updated to support new devices and charging protocols, ensuring your hub keeps up with market changes.

Keeping LEGO’s Fun-Making Machines Working Well

The world’s most famous toy manufacturer LEGO® is headquartered in Denmark and it operates manufacturing sites in Hungary, Czech Republic, Mexico and China, producing a staggering 36 billion plastic bricks per year. The demand for LEGO® products has reached record levels in recent years, putting the existing manufacturing plants under pressure. ABI's BoardMaster PCB repair equipment was first acquired by LEGO’s manufacturing plant in Monterrey (Mexico), with the aim to take control of the electronics maintenance of the plant’s 700+ plastic injection and molding machines manufactured by Engel and Arburg. The previous external repair service had been disappointing and slow. Following the implementation of the BoardMaster, as well as other initiatives, the Monterrey plant jumped from 3rd to 1st place in productivity, achieving global recognition and setting a new standard within the LEGO® Group.

Got a PCB to repair but no documentation?

Obsolete, unavailable board?? Use semi-automated RevEng to re-create the circuit schematics and PCB!

RevEng is a best-in-class hardware and software platform designed to create professional quality schematics for undocumented circuit boards. RevEng uses the clip and learn method for reverse engineering a board. A RevEng system includes one of several hardware configurations, IC clips and probes, SYSTEM 8 Ultimate control software and EdWin XP, a fully featured CAD package.

By guiding the operator through a series of connections to specified points on the circuit board, RevEng learns the traces and connections on the board and produces a NetList (a list of the components and connections). EdWin XP uses the NetList to create the schematic.

System 8 Ultimate software controls System 8 and BoardMaster PCB test and diagnostic systems as well as RevEng. System 8 Ultimate is provided free with any System 8, BoardMaster or RevEng system purchase.  A complete version of the software is always provided, even if the purchase is limited to RevEng or to a single System 8 module. Those parts of the software which control hardware not included in any given configuration can be run in demo mode.

The EdWin XP CAD drawing package is also provided free with each RevEng system. EdWin XP is a product of the Swedish CAD solution provider Visionics.
