What's "I3C"???

I3C is a medium-speed control and data bus interface for connecting peripherals to an application processor in embedded systems and a range of mobile, IoT and automotive applications Implemented as a 2-wire sensor interface I3C provides a superset of features available with the established I²C standard plus addition of high data rate modes that previously required an SPI bus 4-wire architecture. Launched in 2016, MIPI I3C is an evolutionary standard that combines the advantages of I²C and SPI while adding new features such as in-band interrupts, dynamic addressing and advanced power management. It is defined to maintain backward compatibility with I²C but at significantly lower cost, lower power and better scalability than either I²C or SPI.

I3C serial decoder is now included in PicoScope software.

The Pico Technology serial decoders team has been working overtime, adding yet another protocol to both PicoScope 6 (Stable) and PicoScope 7 (Early Access) implementations: MIPI I3C Basic specification waveforms can now be decoded, displayed and analyzed on any PicoScope with sufficient bandwidth and memory depth.

Trevor Smith, Business Development Manager at Pico Technology said: “As EDA tool vendors and silicon providers have delivered support for I3C it has become widely adopted by system designers. When their projects reach the integration stage engineers need the right tools to get their work done, and fast. For engineers who already have a PicoScope with bandwidth to capture the higher data rate signals, they can simply download and install the latest version of PicoScope software and get to work. If they don’t already have a suitable PicoScope they should go out and buy one right away!”

“I3C is backwards compatible with I²C protocol and many designs have a mix of both. The PicoScope I3C decoder makes sense of mixed I²C / I3C traffic. Furthermore, PicoScope can simultaneously decode multiple bus traffic using any available analog and/or digital input channels. Over 30 protocol decoders are now included as standard with the software, and there are more coming down the line.”

Indian review of NanoRanger by Pallav Aggarwal

NanoRanger is a precision current measurement tool by Altonovus Ltd, U.K. It can measure current from 1nA to 800mA with a resolution of 10pA. It has very good accuracy and it can also be controlled by a USB interface.

Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxYtsCmNQbQ

Features: - A large 11-digit display shows mA, uA, nA, and pA, all on one line. - Running Average reading (current and time elapsed) to measure the power consumption of specific events; for example, a radio transmission. - Fully isolated USB Interface for device control and readings export. - The Range Bar can be ‘bracketed’ or limited to just one range. - Range Bar movement after every reading shows that NanoRanger® is operating. - Range Coverage Bar shows the ranges covered during the measurement. - Low Burden Voltage ( less than 50mV) on all ranges. - Fast Up-Range switching (30uS / range) under load changes. - Down-range switching when full reading is below range threshold. - Readings every 300mS, built up from 180 samples and averaged to tune out mains noise (both 50 Hz and 60 Hz). - A new 'Fast Sample' Mode, running at 150 measurements per second. Update the firmware with the latest if you have older firmware on your meter. - SNR display indicates the noise level on the signal. - User-configurable Auto Power-off timer. - The NanoRanger® dimensions are 148 x 90 x 30mm. - 2 x AA batteries give around 150 hours of operation. In this review video 📽️ he sharesthe following details:
1:40 - How I got to know about NanoRanger 2:25 - Unboxing, what comes with the package 3:26 - Main features 5:53 - How to configure the NanoRanger manually 8:46 - Testing 3 power supplies IQ (500uA / 500nA / 60nA) 13:25 - Testing Nanoranger with DC Load for 50mA / 250mA / 750mA 16:10 - How to connect Nanoranger over USB, which software to use which commands to use 22:22 - Quick teardown :) what is on the PCB?

Watch the full video - he has invested a lot of time in this and hopes you will learn from it.

Measures currents from 1nA to 800mA with a 10pA resolution

Saelig Introduces NanoRanger® NR-01 3.5 Digit DC Nanoammeter - measures currents from 1nA to 800mA with a 10pA resolution. Supplied factory calibrated, eliminating the requirement for high-cost precision components, keeping the purchase price low.

NR-01 - an affordable, highly accurate 3.5-digit DC ammeter designed for accurately measuring very low currents.  With automatic dynamic ranging (9 ranges across 8.5 decades), NanoRanger® measures currents from 1nA up to 800mA with a maximum resolution of 10pA.  Each instrument is supplied factory calibrated, eliminating the requirement for high-cost precision components in the design, and thus keeping the purchase price low. The current is measured with a 12-bit ADC which is oversampled and automatically averaged to produce a 16-bit result. Samples are taken every 170uS. Readings are shown every 300mS, built up from 180 averaged samples to eliminate line noise (both 50 Hz and 60 Hz). An alternative 'Fast Sample' Mode can sample at 150 measurements per second.

The backlit 11-digit 128 x 64 LCD display provides a wealth of information for current readings; for instance, mA, uA, nA, and pA are all on one line. A Running Average reading (current and time elapsed) allows the user to measure power consumption of specific events, such as radio transmissions.   The Range Coverage Bar shows the ranges covered during the measurement; it can be ‘bracketed’ or limited to just one range. A signal-to-noise ratio display shows how much noise, or AC, is present on the current signal.  Minimum and maximum ranges can be adjusted to limit the auto-ranging, or fixed at a single range.

Have lots of electronic devices to be kept charged/synced?

The PowerPad15 is a 15-port intelligent universal charger that is available as “charge only” (PowerPad15C) or “charge and sync” (PowerPad15S). The PowerPad8S is an 8-port Intelligent USB charger. If you have a large number of electronic devices that need to be kept charged and/or synchronized then the PowerPad series from Cambrionix will make your working life easier and save previous recharge time, since the manufacturer profiles stored in the PowerPad insure optimal charging rates of up to 2.1A per port using the unique Cambrionix Very Intelligent Charging protocol.

Many organizations need to charge and synchronize multiple devices. For instance, school teachers need to charge and update a whole classroom’s tablets; IT technicians need to charge and update devices for multiple staff members. Whatever the situation, using the PowerPad15 will provide you with state-of-the-art USB technology that is compatible with every manufacturer model and insures that charging occurs at the manufacturer’s optimal rate, speeding up your routine operations.
The PowerPad15 is light weight and it can be permanently mounted in a service area with screw fittings. It is available in three models, a 15 port charge and synchronization model (PP15S), a 15 port charge only model (PP15C) and an 8 port charge and synchronization model (PP8S).

Testing ICs?

The ABI ChipMaster Compact Professional is an economical, compact out-of-circuit IC tester. It has been designed for testing digital ICs of up to 40 pins through a ZIF socket (similar to the LinearMaster for analog ICs). A range of adapters is also to accommodate SOIC and PLCCs. The ChipMaster includes a helpful search facility for unknown ICs, loop modes for finding intermittent failures, diagnostic information for individual pins and self-diagnosis for product integrity. The ABI Compact Range has a USB interface to allow connection with a computer and use with the optional software CompactLink - a PC based software package that allows users to add new devices to the library and create functional tests to suit special applications.
