V-I Testing (also called Analog Signature Analysis) is an elegant but very powerful fault diagnosis technique for detailed fault finding of printed circuit boards, and is the test method of choice whenever circuit diagrams and documentation are lacking. In these situations, Comparative Analog Signature Analysis can be used by matching the “signatures” of a good PCB assembly with those of a suspect one; signature differences can indicate a potential problem. A major advantage when testing a board with a V-I Tester is that no power is required for - or applied to - the device under test. This makes it the ideal technique for evaluating “dead boards” which cannot be safely powered up. ABI's BoardMaster does it!
