Reflecting on Impedance Matching

RF energy travels along transmission lines but what happens when it encounters a load or different type of line? The resulting reflections create standing waves of voltage and current, just as water waves do when they encounter an obstruction. The RF energy bouncing around in the line can create problems with digital signals and can result in extra losses.

This article takes a look at several techniques for dealing with the reflections and how the same techniques are used in circuit design. This is called impedance matching.

Designing a very low power device?

Need to measure picoamps? If you are developing embedded hardware that requires very low power, you need to accurately measure the current drain from standby up to its peak during normal operation. But what measurement device can you use? Many solutions to this challenge have ranged from very expensive ammeters costing thousands of dollars, to cheaper solutions that only have limited manual ranges. Even if you have an expensive six-and-a-half digit multimeter that promises one nanoamp resolution, the lowest current range is usually two milliamps and the absolute accuracy is plus-or-minus five hundred nanoamps. That is not good enough!

What's Going On In That Cable?

If wires are conveying RF signals, they are really transmission lines. This article talks about a basic element of transmission lines — the standing wave ratio, or SWR — and why it’s important and how to measure it.

Can't afford a 12-bit #oscilloscope? Think again!

 Think you can't afford a 12-bit #oscilloscope? Think again!

The Teledyne LeCroy HDO4000A series 4-channel  high-definition oscilloscopes feature 12-bit ADC resolution (up to 15 bit with enhanced resolution) and up to 10 GS/s with enhanced sample rate. 4096 levels instead of 256- 16x more detail!  They feature a huge waveform memory of up to 50 Mpts/Channel, and easy-use MAUI OneTouch user interface, together with exceptional Serial Data and other investigative tools. Up to 23 serial standard protocols are supported.

HD4096 high definition technology captures and displays signals of up to 1GHz with high sample rate and 16 times more resolution than an 8-bit scope.

Waveforms captured and displayed on oscilloscopes with HD4096 technology are clean and crisp. Signal details often lost in the noise are clearly visible and easy to distinguish. HD4096 enables oscilloscopes to deliver unmatched measurement precision for improved debug and analysis. Quickly examine analog or digital signals for runts, glitches or other anomalies with WaveScan.

Cambrionix USB hubs auto-detect attached devices

Cambrionix SuperSync15 15-port USB 3.2 Charge & Sync Hub

15 ports | USB 3.2 | 2.1A (10W) | 5Gbps | Desktop | Charge & Sync | Control

Industrial USB 3 (SuperSpeed USB) hub providing data transfer speeds up to 5Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen1). Transfer data up to ten times quicker than a USB 2.0 hub. Charge and sync 15 devices at up to 2.1A per port.  Connect both USB 2 and USB 3 devices (mobiles, tablets, etc.) at the same time.

Charge: Power with control. Cambrionix USB hubs auto-detect attached devices and automatically adjust the current output to the highest level permitted by the device manufacturer and USB specifications.  If the charging device supports USB Battery Charging V1.2 and charging downstream port (CDP), high current charging during syncing is supported.

Connect: Fast data transfer. Not all hubs are created equal. Charge and connect at the same time with Cambrionix managed USB hubs that deliver high-speed charging and syncing. Find out more about syncing and data transfer with the SuperSync15 managed USB hub.

Manage. Understand. Evaluate. Working independently to the OS, Cambrionix intelligent USB hubs offer three interfaces to manage and monitor what each device is doing exactly when and how you want: Cambrionix API, LiveViewer App, CLI instructions.
