Saving the Whales ...

Hi Team at Saelig,

We have received the Oscilloscope!

Thank you for the generous donation of the Owon SDS7102 100MHz Oscilloscope to the Bob Barker and the Steve Irwin. Not only will your contribution provide the crews of our ships with the equipment necessary to keep our vessels running efficiently, it will also make it possible for us to continue our efforts to defend, conserve and protect marine ecosystems worldwide.

Since its beginnings in 1977, Sea Shepherd has been a leading force in marine conservation. Over the last few years, we have prevented the slaughter of pilot whales in the Faeroe Islands, documented the dolphin slaughter at The Cove in Taiji, patrolled the Mediterranean for blue fin tuna poachers, set up a satellite tracking system with the capabilities to detect illegal shark finning vessel in the Galapagos and patrolled West African waters in the search for poachers.

This past Antarctic campaign we saved 784 whales in the Southern Ocean. This is only possible because of thoughtful contributions from people like you.

In 2014 we are continuing and expanding our efforts. As you know, the cost of protecting our oceans comes at a price but it's nothing compared to losing our greatest and most vital marine treasures. We hope for your continued support in the future.

Once again, thank you for your generous donation and commitment to protecting our seas. Attached you will find a thank you certificate that you may print or use as you like on social media etc. I have also sent you a hard copy of this certificate and you should be receiving it shortly.

For the Oceans,

Katie Adams

Frequency Response Analysis Improvements

Cleverscope recently improved the Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) package, again! There are four new videos on their website that show how you can improve FRA performance and accuracy. You can now:
    1. calibrate your probes, which means that the standard 1x probe provides flat response to 10 MHz, and BNC test cables to 65 MHz.
    2. calibrate high frequency test fixtures to remove the effects of parasitic capacitance and inductance.
    3. have persistence and reference curves,
    4. use the tracer and markers on any of the persistence plots being displayed in the Spectrum Display.
    5. cycle round up to 50 reference plots simply by clicking the Persistence index control.

Their video 'FRA family of curves' shows capture of three gain/phase plots for a power supply under three different load currents, and then examining each capture in turn. Check it out!

Now is the time of year that university lab managers are planning to upgrade and increase their equipment and capabilities.  Here are some of our offerings:

Best Priced Oscilloscopes  We have an extremely broad, unique scope selection from manufacturers all over the world - from low-end scope-in-a-probe devices to 7instruments-in-1 toolbox essentials, to high-end 16-bit 12GHz TDR units; from standalone, economical LCD scopes, to sophisticated 4-channel bench-top ‘workhorses’; educational starter scopes that include teaching experiments, to high-end mixed signal scopes with logic analysis capabilities for sophisticated glitch triggering and deep memory depth searching for rare events. Rigol, Owon, GWInstek
Signal Generators - unique selection of high-quality signal generators to suit almost any budget, from low-cost bench signal sources (Aim-TTi, Syscomp,) to Arbitrary Waveform Generators (Rigol, Owon, GWInstek).
RF Test - we offer 3/6GHz Spectrum Analyzers with tracking generators, 3GHz handheld spectrum analyzers, RF signal sources and signal quality analyzers, USB RF test modules, as well as EMI-proof enclosures.
Power Supplies  -  we offer a wide choice of simple “wall-wart” supplies for low-voltage/low-current needs, and more complex benchtop supplies with single or multiple outputs, programmable supplies, flexible current/voltage supplies with multiple communication options with output up to 800W.
Multimeters   - economical handheld meters, DVMs with USB-connectivity, bench-top 4 ½ and 5 ½ digit LAN capabilities.
Automotive      -  affordable kits to diagnose many automotive and electrical system issues with diagnostics kits from Pico Technology.  Pico’s award-winning Automotive Diagnostic Kits make fault diagnosis is fast, accurate, and ideal for all makes and models of motor vehicles.
Optical testing  - World-class handheld spectrophotometers and integrating spheres from GL Optic (Germany)
3D Printers      3D printing has become affordable for all to quickly make and evaluate concept parts. 3D printing is now commonly employed in the earliest stages of innovation. Art pieces or concept samples can be looked at and touched for instant suggestions, modifications or corrections - with another iteration produced within the hour.   We have 3D printers from popular leading name MakerBot, as well as the award-winning, easy-use Afinia brand.

Here's a useful website for timely reminders!

I came across this website while reading this month's INC magazine:

Some of our suppliers allow us to display lower-than-list selling prices for the products we sell, but other vendors insist on making us keep to advertising their list prices, with severe consequences for deviation.  GWInstek is one supplier that does that, but they have just given us special permission to add a discount splash screen on our website for an additional 5% off list prices.  We're glad to pass these savings on to our faithful customers!  If you're looking for a piece of test equipment from GWInstek go ahead and use discount code GWINSTEK.
